Snippets
Snippets are short, reusable pieces of context and instructions - about you, your company, a brand or a client - that you switch on in any chat with the puzzle button, several at once, so you never have to explain them again.
A snippet is a piece of context or instructions you write once and switch on in any chat. Who you are and how you like answers, what your company sells, how your brand sounds, the key facts about a client: the things you would otherwise retype at the start of every conversation. Tick the snippets you need, and their content is added to the AI’s instructions for that chat.
The idea behind them is simple: the AI should know about you, your company and your brand without you explaining it over and over. Snippets are easy to reach from the composer, and you don’t need to create a project or upload anything to a knowledge base to use them.
Turn snippets on in a chat
- Open the snippet picker
In the composer, select the puzzle button (1), between the knowledge base picker (the book icon) and Style. A list headed SNIPPETS opens, with a search box, Search snippets…, and your snippets in two groups: MY SNIPPETS for your personal ones and WORKSPACE for the ones shared with everyone.
- Tick the snippets you need
Tick as many as the job needs (3). The counter in the corner (2) shows how many are selected, out of a maximum of 20 at once. Each row shows the snippet’s name and its short description, so you can tell them apart.
- Select Apply
Apply (4) turns the selection on. The puzzle button turns yellow and shows a badge with the number of snippets that are on.
- Write your prompt and send
Ask as usual. The content of every ticked snippet is added to the AI’s instructions, so you can keep the prompt itself short.
Snippets stay on for the whole conversation. After you send, and when you come back to the chat later, the reply composer still shows the badge. A new chat starts with no snippets ticked, so you choose again for each new piece of work.
In the chat, a message you sent with snippets on has a small puzzle icon under it, next to the copy and branch icons. It marks that snippets were on for that message. Messages sent without snippets don’t have it. The chat header shows the model and the style, not the snippets.
Snippets work with any model: like a response style, they are added to the instructions the model receives.
See the difference
The same prompt, the same model (Claude Opus 5.5) and the same style (Prompty), once without snippets and once with About me, About Northwind and Northwind brand voice switched on:
Write a short LinkedIn post announcing our new store in Porto.
Without snippets, the AI knows nothing about the company, so it fills the gaps with guesses and placeholders:
We’re opening in Porto! 🎉 We’re excited to announce our newest store, now open in the heart of Porto, Portugal. Porto is known for its creativity, character and warm hospitality… [Store address] [Opening hours] … Come say olá! #Porto #Portugal #GrandOpening #NewStore #Growth
With the three snippets on, the post is written as Northwind, with Northwind’s facts:
Porto, we’re here. Our new store is now open, and it’s our first in the city. We opened our doors in August, and it already feels like home. Come in and feel the difference for yourself. Soft merino, warm alpaca and organic cotton, made to be worn and loved for years. … Since 2011, we’ve grown one store at a time … Porto joins our stores across France, Spain and Portugal … #Northwind #Porto #Knitwear #HomeTextiles #NaturalMaterials
Nothing in the prompt changed. The opening month, the materials, the founding year and the countries came from About Northwind. The short sentences, “we”, and the missing exclamation marks and emojis came from Northwind brand voice.
Create a snippet
- Open Settings > Snippets
Open settings from the user menu at the bottom of the left sidebar and choose Snippets. The page reads “Reusable instructions and context you can enable in any chat with the puzzle button.” The snippet picker in the composer also has + Create new snippet at the bottom.
- Select Create snippet
The Create snippet dialog explains: “The content is added to the AI’s instructions whenever the snippet is enabled in a chat.”
- Name (1): short and recognisable, for example Brand voice or Bluebird Market (client).
- Description (2): a short summary shown in the snippet picker, under the name.
- Content (3): the instructions or context the AI should follow when the snippet is on. Up to 20,000 characters.
- Visibility (4): Only me keeps it private to your account. Whole workspace shares it, so every workspace member can enable it.
- Select Create
StickyPrompts confirms with “Snippet created - Enable it in any chat with the puzzle button.” The snippet now appears in the picker, under MY SNIPPETS or WORKSPACE.
This is the content of the personal About me snippet from the example above (“Who I am and how I like answers.”):
I'm John Smith, Head of Operations at Northwind. I look after our 12
stores, logistics and suppliers, and I present to the board every
quarter. Start with the recommendation, then the reasons. Give money
in EUR and dates as 14 October 2026.
And the workspace snippet Northwind brand voice (“Warm, direct, no jargon.”):
Write as Northwind: warm, direct and confident. Short sentences. Say
"we", never "the company". British spelling. No exclamation marks,
no emojis. Never use: synergy, leverage, game-changer, elevate, curated.
Workspace snippets
A workspace snippet is shared with everyone in the workspace. Create one by choosing Whole workspace in the dialog above. Admins can also manage them on the Workspace page, under AI Behaviour > Workspace Snippets, next to the workspace prompt and workspace response styles. See AI behaviour.
Workspace snippets are good for the facts everyone needs: what the company does and sells, the brand voice, product lines, house rules. Write About Northwind once, and nobody in the company has to explain Northwind to the AI again.
Edit or delete a snippet
Settings > Snippets lists MY SNIPPETS and WORKSPACE SNIPPETS; shared ones carry a WORKSPACE badge (3). Each row has a pencil to edit the snippet and a bin to delete it (2). If you have none yet, the page reads “No snippets yet. Create one to get started.”
Snippet, style, workspace prompt or knowledge base?
They all shape what the AI knows or how it answers. The difference is who sets them, when they apply, and how much they hold.
| What it is for | When it applies | Who it belongs to | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snippet | Short context or instructions: about you, the company, a brand, a client | Only when you switch it on, per chat; several at once, up to 20 | You, or the whole workspace |
| Response style | How the answer is written: length, structure, tone | One style at a time, picked in the composer | You, the whole workspace, or built-in |
| Workspace prompt | The few rules that should always be true | Always on, for everyone, in every chat | Set by workspace admins |
| Knowledge base or project | Large documents the AI searches when it answers | When you pick it, or work inside the project | Needs files uploaded |
A good rule of thumb: if it is short, always relevant, and you would otherwise type it again, make it a snippet. If it is a long document, or many of them, put it in a knowledge base. If it is about how the reply should look, make it a style.
Ideas for good snippets
| Snippet | What it might say |
|---|---|
| About me | Your name, role and what you look after. How you like answers: recommendation first, currency, date format. |
| About the company | What you sell, to whom, where, key numbers, the financial year. Northwind’s is 12 stores in France, Spain and Portugal, an online shop at 31% of sales, customers aged 30 to 55. |
| A brand | Voice, spelling, words to use and never to use. Useful for each brand if you run several. |
| A client account | Who the client is, the main contact, renewal dates, what they buy and what they always ask for. |
| A product | What it does, who it is for, the facts that must be right every time. |
| House rules | “Never invent figures - if data is missing, say so.” “Refer to customers as retailers.” |
Tips
- Keep each snippet about one thing. About Northwind and Northwind brand voice are separate, so you can switch on the facts without the voice, or the voice without the facts.
- Write facts, not wishes. “12 stores in France, Spain and Portugal” gives the AI something to use. “We are a great company” doesn’t.
- Use the description. It is what you see in the picker, so make it say when to use the snippet: “Key facts for the Bluebird Market account.”
- Switch on only what the job needs. A client snippet has no place in an internal board update. Fewer, relevant snippets give cleaner answers.
- Keep it current. When a new store opens, edit About Northwind with the pencil in Settings > Snippets, rather than correcting the AI chat by chat.
